[Select Monthly View] [Select Daily View]What are the purposes of our Small Groups?
The first purpose is transformation. “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” I John 2:6 Transformation = growing in mutual accountability, and in mutual submission and in the application of scriptural truth, so that people can become more like Jesus in attitude and behavior.
The second purpose is community. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one anotherand all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24, 25. Community = creating an environment that is characterized by authenticity and transparency so that folks enter into relationships where they are known, loved, accepted, and challenged.
The third purpose is compassion. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 Compassion = encouraging group members to grow in love for others so that they embrace and serve people in and beyond their small group.
The last purpose is mission. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” Matthew 9:37, 38 Mission = building a community with an eternal perspective so that each small group member actively invests in serving the Lord in a ministry here at North Arundel.
